KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.16 g, 1 h), Pella, struck under Antigonos II Gonatas, circa 277/6-274. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, grape on stem with tendrils. Price 589. Beautifully struck in high relief and of monumental early Hellenistic style. Nearly extremely fine.
